We had gotten another one of these before Covid and our dog has managed to kill some of the squeakers but not all. I'd guess maybe half of the squeakers are still going after 4 years. This is AMAZING because Abby is a squeaker kill! lol Usually within a few minutes. And she has not managed to rip ANY of them out of the one we've had for about 4 years. Some of the material is starting to rip on a few sections, but, for whatever reason, the toy is still mostly intact. It's a soft material, too, so I'm not sure what the secret is. We would highly recommend this toy for people whose dogs love squeakers!
Pretty soon after receiving, we noticed our dog appearing to cough on the fluffy fur covering. Within two weeks, it was coming off in little chunks. This was under closely supervised play, with our adult German Shorthaired Pointer.
Did not last more than 30 minutes. Not sure how this got the durability rating it has. There's no 30-day guarantee on this for a reason.
These were gifts for golden retrievers. The snakes are super tough and extra squeaky.
Very well sized and fairly priced.
So I've bought several brands and spend several hundred dollars on dog toys.
This one definitely has some positives:
+ Edge seam stitching is hard-core; unless there's a defect, most dogs can't pull it apart.
+ The inner lining is also durable
+ Overall strong enough to play tug-o-war with a feisty pitty.
+ Squeakers are very durable
+ dog loves it
However, some negatives:
- The "fur" on the outside comes off easily, and many dogs will ingest it. Not recommended for a dog that uses their front (flat) teeth to pull fur off things.
- The squeakers are comically obnoxious, which I don't mind too much, but it became relegated to "outside toy" status quickly.
Overall, my favorite brands have been Durables and Tuffy. If Outward Hound got rid of the soft fabric and used something like Durables uses, it would be 5 stars.
If you don't really worry about your dog ingesting polyester (or whatever) and dyes, and don't mind a lot of squeaking, this may be the toy for you!
